Great Pizza Wine – Chateau Paret & Chateau Buisson-Redon

Chateau Paret is a great pizza wine!  We had it with our Father’s Day Pizza Dinner, which you can read about in this post.

It’s a reasonably inexpensive Bordeaux –  a Merlot/Cabernet blend from France.  It has a simple and “uncomplicated” personality that won’t be overwhelmed by heavy or spicy – so perfect with pizza!

Before we go too much further on this front, I have to tell you that I’m not the primary wine person in our family! I actually met my husband during a wine party, and he’s the one who introduced me to the joys of wine appreciation! I can’t say I’ve become an expert, but I’ve spent over twenty years drinking and talking about wonderful wines!  And I guess I’ve learned a little bit along the way. I’ve certainly enjoyed coming up with funny words to describe them!

So the short description of the Chateau Paret is as follows:

Pure fruit taste with just a bit of earthiness to give it a little interest.  A fabulous pizza wine for our Father’s Day dinner!  We loved it.

However.

When we tried it again another night, with a different pizza, it didn’t live up to its reputation!  We tried again.  And got another not so great bottle.

But the next time … it was once again a great pizza wine!

So while the good bottles of the Chateau Paret are excellent, I’m not going to recommend it whole-heartedly.

As I mentioned, it’s not very expensive as far as wines go – about $11 at the grocery store.

So if you want to play wine roulette and take a chance, you wouldn’t be out too much, and you might end up with a winner!

But if you don’t want to take any chances on your pizza wine, I do have an alternate suggestion.  Another Bordeaux, Chateau Buisson-Redon.

This one’s from a a particularly good neighborhood – just outside the Pomerol region, which produces some of the most famous wines in the world!

Our most recent Buisson-Redon was a 2015.

The color was a deep jewel red, and the flavor was bright and fruity. I got a straightforward cherry fragrance out of my glass, and a juicy, plummy taste.  Just a tiny hint of minerals!

Everybody has their own way of describing wines.

It’s pretty fun at a dinner party to see how differently other people experience the same wine you just drank!  We get some very “creative” descriptions sometimes!

I hope you do get a chance to try one or both of these pizza wines.  (They’re also great with other Italian or spicy dishes.)

And please leave a Comment below – I’d love to hear your creative descriptions, and what you think of them!
