A Daffodil Table Setting on a Beautiful Snow Day

Today we’re flashing back to a beautiful snow day last year, when I made a daffodil table setting!

I’ve been so looking forward to daffodils lately, and looking through my photos, I found these. I took them in early spring when I was home from work one day because of snow.

We don’t get snow very often here in Portland, Oregon, but when we do it’s a big deal! Everybody suddenly forgets how to drive, so we stay home and make hot chocolate and build fires. Watch kids build snow people. And set tables!

The Flowers for the Daffodil Table Setting

Our daffodils were in bloom, and the snow and wind were beating them up a bit. So I went out and grabbed most of them, as well as some oregon grape leaves and blossoms.

I honestly didn’t arrange them much – just popped them into a pitcher and set them on the table. I do love a casual bunch of flowers. Especially when they’re so bright and sunny!

The leaves of the oregon grape bush are almost like holly, only not quite so stabby. And they have lovely yellow flowers for just a bit in spring. They made a pretty accompaniment to the daffodils.

The Dining Room in Daylight

I’m almost never in the dining room in the morning sunlight, even on weekends. I admit, I sleep in Saturday and Sunday until a shocking hour. And by the time I finally make it downstairs, the sun has moved further around the house.

So all this bright light, and the reflection off the snow, was super exciting! Even if I hadn’t been making a daffodil table setting, I would have been hanging out in the dining room!

The Daffodil Table Setting Proper

In order to complement my daffodils, I used some soft yellow linens. And to honor that lightness and brightness, I went with silver and white.

That really set off the colors in the pitcher, and the flowers themselves.

And of course, my favorite silver flatware is always a nice touch.

Cut crystal water and juice glasses provided some sparkle. (Ok, they’re really highball and sherry glasses, but who’s counting?!)

Add some silver mercury glass votives for candlelight, and there you go!

Some Extra Pictures Just Because We Have Them

I’ve always wanted to take a photo from this angle!

The Snow Behind the Daffodil Tablescape

I messed around with the interior lights and my camera until I got a decent picture of the snow coming down. You can see it falling if you look closely out the left window.

Or the right window too, I guess. Plus, our tablescape looks romantic in the dusky light!

I know it doesn’t look like there’s so much snow that we need to stay home, but there’s really more than it seems. Those bushes are up against the house under the eaves, so they don’t get as much as the roads!

Any Little Excuse for a Snow Day

See how good we are at making excuses too? We only get one or two snow days a year, so we’ve learned to exaggerate as much as possible!

And if you know there’s snow, you can imagine you see more out the windows in this picture too!

But no matter how much snow is actually out there, we have beautiful flowers inside. And a lovely daffodil table setting to enjoy while watching it fall!

Thanks so much for stopping over and sharing this sunny table. Here’s to a lovely day!

The UK sounds the same as Portland then, when it snows here everything seizes up and we all forget how to drive too! Apart from the north of Scotland where they get a lot so are used to it!!
Your table is beautiful, I love how cheerful daffodils are.
