A Vintage Teacup at the Petals and Props Workshop

This Tuesday, we have a gorgeous vintage teacup! And as always, here’s the original Instagram post to start us off.

Teacup Tuesday 17 SEP 2019

Vintage teacup with roses

Happy Teacup Tuesday Everyone! This week we have a lovely gold and flowered vintage teacup. It came from a really wonderful shop on the Long Beach peninsula last winter. I took its picture on the beach then, and now it gets to come inside and keep me company on a romantic rainy day. I took these photos at @alajamie ‘s @petalsandprops workshop over the weekend, and I’m still bouncing from it! This beauty is the star of my blog post today too, so come on over and find out more. Just click the link in my profile, or visit MANTELandTABLE.com. I’d love to share it with you!

Vintage Teacup Tidbits

Probably because I got this teacup at the coast, it reminds me of the beach. You can read about my Long Beach peninsula trip in this post. This romantic setting could easily be in a little beach cottage on a cool misty day, don’t you think?

In my mind, I’m visiting that little cottage. I’m sitting in a cozy chair with a filmy pink throw, listening to the surf and rain outside. I have some of my favorite jasmine tea in this lovely cup. And some beautiful pink flowers to brighten the mood.

Maybe a gentle fire and a book too. Maybe some chocolates even! (Oddly, I feel like I’ve used the Fire-Book-Chocolates theme before. Do you sense an obsession … ?)

Manufacturer’s Info

Undersides of cup and saucer

Elijah Cotton Ltd., founded by Elijah Cotton in 1885, was the manufacturer of our vintage teacup. Back in the day, the company was famous in the Stafforshire pantheon of potteries. Originally a family business, a succession of Cotton sons managed it, and it stayed open until 1981.

Saucer backstamp "Lord Nelson Ware"

Even though the company was famous for their jugs, they also made other china. The name of the factory was the Nelson Works. And probably because of that name, they produced a line of china called Nelson Ware, starting about 1913. They added Lord to the name sometime around 1950. Based on the mark, the date of our saucer is around 1956.

Because the cup has slightly different markings, I wonder if they made it at a different time. I looked long and hard, however other info on this one was reasonably tricky to find. We’ll just have to use our imaginations for now!

Vintage Teacup ~ Behind the Scenes

Jamie Jamison with greenery arrangement

As I mentioned in my original Instagram post, I took these vintage teacup pictures at the Petals and Props workshop. We got to learn from the amazing photographer, stylist, and coach, Jamie Jamison. If you’ve never seen her striking photography, take yourself right over to her site. You’ll love it! And she’s a marvelous instructor. If you ever get the chance to attend one of her classes, grab it!

Also, the location was perfect! The beautiful Vancouver, WA barn and grounds of Made on 23rd, the company that created these gorgeous fabrics.

Of course, I just love the way the pink one draped over this little table. And the white one gently filtered the light from the window.

As you can see, this is the upper floor of the barn, and taking photos here in this fabulous light was a total joy! I got to arrange the flowers then mess around taking pictures of them all over the place.

However, it goes without saying, that the ones with the teacup were my favorites!
