St Patrick’s Day Tablescape – Easy Elegance You’ll Love

Do You Love St Patrick’s Day?

Who doesn’t love St Patrick’s Day!?

Well, yours truly. A little bit. Maybe. I guess I never got over being pinched a lot as a child when I “forgot” to wear green. (I had red hair as a kid, and green made me feel like a Christmas tree!) Plus, I’m not crazy about beer. And finally, I like food to be its normal color!

I actually do love to go out and dance and party! And ok – if somebody absolutely insists we go out for St Patrick’s Day, I’m the first one out the door. But unlike New Year’s Eve when I’m willing to take the risk, I’d rather stay off the roads on this particular evening.

St Patrick’s Day Dinner Party

However, having made my disclaimer, I really do love any excuse to throw a dinner party. And St Patrick’s Day is a great reason!

If you’ve followed me for a while, it’ll come as no surprise that I might set a subtle St Patrick’s Day tablescape. While I totally love kitsch, elegance rules at dinner. Even on green shamrock holidays.

A Centerpiece Garland

As often happens with my tables, finding the flowers was the catalyst for the whole setting. This centerpiece garland is so elegant – and super simple.

It’s got three things in it – seeded eucalyptus and two kinds of roses. Green roses for St Patrick’s Day of course. The people at the store told me that these roses are naturally green. I was inclined to doubt, but I did some research, and real green roses do, in fact, exist! I think my variety is called ‘Lemonade.’

They’re really ruffly and pretty. And they added a beautiful fun texture to my centerpiece garland. I also got another batch of greenish roses. When I got them home, they were a little less green that I had thought. They’re mostly cream with just a little green tinge. However, that worked for me and added a little more variety.

I just laid the eucalyptus branches down the middle of the table. Then snuggled in the rose heads at what I thought were the prettiest spots.
Because I had to cut the stems so short, I just put the roses in a bowl of water after dinner, rather than in a vase. They still look beautiful several days later!

Then I added candles. They’re always so lovely in among the flowers. I used some tall brass holders, as well as mercury glass votives, for a variety of heights.

White, Gold, & Crystal

Another thing that will not surprise anyone at all, is the remaining color scheme. I love white and gold more than life itself! Well, almost. Plus, I own a lot of white and gold tableware – I have to use it, right?

Same with crystal. Any kind of cut glass anything just sparkles on a table. Especially at night, with candles.

The vintage gold flatware has been in our family a long time. You can read its history in this post.

I love the ornate pattern, but it’s kind of hard to come by these days. I’ll keep looking and link some below that are very similar. And alternatively, some that are good modern substitutes.

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

So if you’re planning to stay in for St Patrick’s Day this year, you might try your own version of this table. It’s casually elegant, and a subtle nod to the occasion. You could even switch out the wine glasses, and bring out the green beer!

      1. Great story about your gold flatware. It’s so interesting where everyone finds their table elements. I have gold flatware that belonged to my mother-in-law. I had never thought of buying a set, but I use it more than I ever thought I would.
